Tavernkeeper
When you become a rank 1 Bartender you gain your very own tavern, which pulls in limited income, but facilitates rumors, draws in interesting people, and provides a free refuge. When you increase your rank in the Bartender profession, your tavern increases its income and you may choose to build specialized additions.
Rank 1
You own a plot of undeveloped land in a populated rural or urban area about 1 acre in size. You’ve made arrangements to construct a tavern on this land, large enough to house ten customers with rooms to house you and six companions or guests, and it will be constructed three months after you make these arrangements. Your tavern comes with three reliable employees: one server, one cook, and one stablehand and it can operate without your presence.
After your staff is paid, your tavern generates 1d10+5 sc per week.
Rank 2
Your tavern becomes a known local spot and expands. It can hold up to 20 customers and house up to 10 companions or guests. You gain an additional employee, a new bartender, who works the counter when you’re not around, and your tavern now generates 2d10+10 sc per week.
Your tavern is also a rich source of gossip and information, generating 1d2 rumors per week. These rumors remain, but you may accumulate up to 10 at most; any in excess of 10 leak out and are no longer tradeable for favors. You may trade rumors for the following:
| Rumors Traded | Benefit |
|---|---|
| 1 | +1 Goodwill with an NPC or institution, up to +5 total Goodwill. |
| 1 | An automatic success on a Politics or Religion check up to DC 15. |
| 2 | Decrease an NPC’s Goodwill with a single entity by -1, to a total of -5. |
| 2 | Receive a 10% discount on purchases in a targeted community for 1 week. |
| 4 | An automatic success on a Politics, Religion, or History check up to DC 20. |
| 4 | Receive a 25% discount on purchases in a targeted community for 1 week. |
| 5 | Gain a temporary +2 bonus to skills with the influence tag with a single NPC or institution for 1 week. |
| 5 | Gain a temporary +2 bonus to skills with the subterfuge tag against a single NPC or institution for 1 week. |
| 10 | Uncover the location or details of a minor cache, location, or special NPC. This can reveal special encounters in a location, uncover a magic item, or unique details about an NPC of note. |
Rank 3
Your tavern expands again to roughly 1.5 acres. It can hold up to 30 customers and house up to 15 companions or guests. You gain two additional employees responsible for running aspects of your tavern, your income increases to 3d10+15 sc, and you now generate 1d4 rumors per week.
With the new acreage, you may expand your tavern with either a brewery, palisades, stable, stage, or suites.
Rank 4
Your tavern becomes a staple of its location. It holds up to 40 customers and houses up to 25 companions or guests. You gain an additional two employees, your income increases to 4d10+20 sc, and you now generate 1d4+2 rumors per week.
You may expand your tavern again, choosing from the list of available expansions.
Rank 5
Your tavern is one of immense repute, drawing adventurers, nobles, merchants, and all manner of interesting folk. It expands in size to roughly 2 acres and holds up to 80 customers and 40 companions or guests. You gain four additional employees, creating a fully functional, competent staff. Your passive income increases to 8d10+40 sc and your rumor maximum expands to 18.
You expand your tavern one last time, choosing the list of available expansions.
| Expansion | Description |
|---|---|
| Stable | Your tavern can house a number of mounts equal to your Bartender rank x5. You gain +1 stablehand employee who exclusively deals with mounts. Any mount that rests in your stable increases its speed by +10 ft for a week, and you can use 2 rumors to find deals on local mounts, gaining a 50% discount on such purchases for a week. |
| Brewery | You add your own brewery. This acts as a permanent set of brewing supplies that generates 10 sc income per day. If you possess the Brewer talent, you can create your special brew an additional number of times per Take a Rest equal to your Bartender rank. |
| Palisade | Your tavern becomes fortified, gaining a wall that expands with its acreage. This wall comes with a single watchtower, a fortified gate, and acts as enough security to keep out bandits and discourage thieves. You also gain a number of employees with military experience (such as guards or thugs) equal to your Bartender rank, and gain a new such employee whenever your rank increases. |
| Stage | You build a stage in your tavern’s common room, or off in its own area. This increases your weekly income by 2d10 sc and generates +2 rumors per week. |
| Suites | You build luxury rooms into your tavern, increasing the amount of guests you can house by 3 per Bartender rank. This can attract nobles, rich merchants, or other special NPCs to your tavern. You gain +1 Goodwill per month with the local community, and +2 Goodwill with any individual that stays in a suite. You also increase your passive income by your Bartender rank x4 sc per week. |
