[Back to creatures]

Melaneth is a domain of pitch darkness. At its heart, the city of Durlossoth eclipses all else. Darkness forever shrouds the ancient stone structures that cluster together in a chaotic mess of twisted alleyways and dead ends that stretch farther than any mortal city. The fiends that haunt these streets are gaunt and haggard things who often appear emaciated and weak. Despite their frail appearance, fiends from Melaneth frequently venture to the mortal plane, where they make bargains with mortals. Their unmatched cunning extends to every interaction as they willingly negotiate with those seeking power or knowledge. Even the most clever mortals will find these dealings rarely end in their favor.

Bonewraith

Bonewraiths are lanky, horrific blends of bones and shadows. They stalk the Black City of Durlossoth looking for anything to fill their insatiable hunger. Due to their capacity to raise undead, cultists that worship fiends often approach Bonewraiths to make dealings.

Features
Dark Flight. The Bonewraith can fly while in dim light or darkness. If it is exposed to bright light while flying, it falls.

Growing Horde (1/Rest). When the Bonewraith Takes a Rest, at the end of that time it automatically summons 1d4 Skeletons or Zombies.

Unassuming Form. The Bonewraith is able to assume the illusionary form of a weak, emaciated Medium-sized human. While in this form, it gains +4 to Deceiving and Evading skill checks. It immediately loses this feature for 1 hour after attacking or taking damage.

Actions

The Bonewraith can MOVE and take TWO of the following actions, or take the same action twice.

Move. The Bonewraith can move up to its speed.
Assailing Shadow. The Bonewraith must be in dim light or darkness to make this attack. Ranged (60ft) Natural Weapon. +3 vs WILL. Hit: 8 (1d10+3) necrotic and the target is Tethered.
Black Claws. Reach 10ft Natural Weapon. +3 vs AR. Hit: 8 (1d10+3) sharp and the target is Tethered.
Snuff. One source of nonmagical light or light from a divine prayer or arcane cantrip within 60ft of the Bonewraith is extinguished.
Reactions
Tether (1/Round). When the Bonewraith takes damage, it may choose a creature that it can see within 60ft of it. If that creature was Tethered since the start of the Bonewraith's last turn, then that creature takes 1/2 of the damage that the Bonewraith would have taken.
