Hesperornises are large, flightless birds indigenous to tropical and subtropical coasts. They are primarily marine, diving into the sea or into freshwater rivers to hunt for fish and other food. They live in sizeable flocks and communicate with one another using loud, piercing squawks to warn of danger or signal an abundance of food.
