It is widely held that a dog is a human’s best friend. For lumberjacks, one specific kind of canine is their best friend: the axehandle hound. This canine’s snout is as sharp and hard as iron, and the dog has the supernatural ability to stiffen its body into the consistency of wood and be wielded as an axe. When left to its own devices, an axehandle hound will devour trees even more thoroughly than beavers.
