[Back to creatures]

A northern deep sea creature resembling a giant silver-scaled salmon, the Gyo-Gura can be recognized for its distinct head and jaws that resemble those of a canine. Although typically non-agressive, the Gyo-Gura has a remarkable defense if it feels threatened. By narrowing its mouth to a small round hole, it can spew jets of steaming-hot water hundreds of feet and can easily destroy dinghies and small fishing boats with a single jet.
