Having reclaimed Gilgalon’s western territory, it now falls to the heroes to lead Godking Mangondulon’s army west and north, braving the harsh environments of Brazodir as they bring the fight to Godking Assurgazzar himself.
This chapter is structured much like chapter 6. The first section details random encounters that the heroes may face as they march through the desert. The majority of the chapter details four specific encounters that the heroes will face on their journey. Finally, the end of the chapter details the heroes’ attack on Venad itself, the capital of Brazodir.
The Desert March
As the Gilgalonian army ventures into the desert, the heroes will need to contend with a variety of strenuous encounters. In addition to maintaining their Supply Line Strength, the heroes will also need to keep their water levels sufficient.
Supply Line Strength
Maintaining the army’s supply line uses the same process as that in the previous chapter. The process is repeated here for ease of reference.
Daily Supply Line Maintenance
At the end of each day when the heroes prepare to Take a Rest, one or more heroes must make an INT, AWR, or CHA check to maintain the supply line. This check represents maintaining beneficial logistics, charting out areas that might be difficult for wagons to navigate, and keeping morale high among the noncombatants that deliver food and supplies to the front lines. Skills such as Empathy, Geography, Leadership, Military, Navigating, and Perceiving are relevant, though heroes may come up with reasonable justification for other skills. The DC is 16 minus 1 per additional hero beyond one hero that contributes to the check. Take the average of all rolls. On a success, the Supply Line Strength is maintained. On a failure, it is reduced by 1. On a success that is 10 or more in excess of the DC, increase Supply Line Strength by 1.
When the heroes take a key landmark, a sidebar will note to improve Supply Line Strength, as the well-defended region makes it easy for suppliers to travel safely.
Shoring Up Supplies
If the heroes feel the need to improve their Supply Line Strength, they may attempt to convince Godking Mangondulon not to advance for an entire day. Each participating hero must make an INT, AWR, or CHA check, adding a skill that they justify as relevant. Subtract the DC by 1 for each hero beyond the first that contributes to this roll. Compare the average of all rolls to the table below to determine the outcome.
If the supply line is lower than 3 when the heroes approach Godking Mangondulon, lower each DC threshold by 3.
| DC | Outcome |
| 12 or lower | Mangondulon is furious and publicly denounces the heroes. They each lose 1 Fame and automatically fail on their next Supply Line Strength checks. |
| 13-16 | Mangondulon dismisses the heroes out of hand and presses forward. The heroes automatically fail on their next Supply Line Strength checks. |
| 17-20 | Mangondulon ignores the heroes and presses forward. When the heroes make their rolls to maintain the supply line at the end of the day, the DC starts at 20. |
| 21-24 | Mangondulon refuses to stop, but agrees to only march for half a day. Supply Line Strength is maintained and the heroes do not make checks at the end of the day. |
| 25-29 | Mangondulon agrees to spend the day shoring up the territory that they control. Increase Supply Line Strength by 1. Heroes may make the check at the end of the day in an effort to further increase Supply Line Strength, but do not have to. |
| 30+ | Mangondulon agrees to spend the day shoring up the territory that they control. Increase Supply Line Strength by 1. Heroes make the check at the end of the day in an effort to further increase Supply Line Strength. If they do not meet the base DC of 16, they do not lose Supply Line Strength. If they do meet the DC, they gain 1 additional Supply Line Strength, or 2 if they succeed by 10 or more. |
Weakened or Broken Supply Line
When a supply line is weakened or broken, the likelihood of certain random encounters changes, as noted on the random encounters table in the next subsection.
Furthermore, whenever the heroes utilize any NPCs in combat (such as commanding Gilgalonian soldiers or riding a Gilgalonian dinosaur), these NPCs suffer a penalty if the Supply Line is Weakened or Broken. If it is Weakened, NPCs are Demoralized due to a lack of proper food and equipment. If it is Broken, NPCs are both Demoralized and Shaken as a result.
Tracking Water
As the army marches into the desert, Godking Mangondulon issues an order to fill many barrels full of fresh river water. These barrels are placed on wagons and added to the army’s supplies.
In addition to managing the army’s Supply Line Strength, heroes will need to keep an eye on the army’s Water Level. The army’s Water Level can never be higher than its Supply Line Strength.
When the army’s Water Level is 3 or lower, all Gilgalonian dinosaurs and soldiers are Weakened. When the army’s Water Level is 0, all Gilgalonian dinosaurs and soldiers are Enfeebled.
A Weakened dinosaur or soldier counts as ⅔ its ML when the heroes utilize it in the combat encounters throughout this chapter. An Enfeebled dinosaur or soldier instead counts as ⅓ its ML.
Whenever the heroes improve their Supply Line Strength, they may choose to instead improve their Water Level (provided that this would not cause their Water Level to exceed their Supply Line Strength).
Timeline
Heroes should deal with one random encounter per day for the first ten days. After the random encounter on the tenth day, the heroes also face the Hunger from Below encounter.
Following this encounter, the heroes travel for one more day (and face another random encounter). The following day, the heroes face one random encounter and then the Battle of the Sandstorm encounter.
After the Battle of the Sandstorm, the heroes face the Cracked Castle encounter on the following day.
The heroes experience a bit of a respite after the Cracked Castle. They travel for seven more days and experience one random encounter per day. Then they engage in the Battle of Godking’s Blood.
After the Battle of Godking’s Blood, the heroes have a four day march before they reach Venad. This march includes two encounters per day, but uses the random encounter tables listed in the Into the Maw subsection below instead of these random encounter tables for those final days of the journey.

| 2-10 | Inclement Weather |
| 11-15 | Equipment Failure |
| 16-25 | Food Shortage |
| 26-45 | Water Shortage |

| 71-98 | Brazodiran Attack |
| 99-100 | Plague |
Verdant Oasis
The heroes find an oasis watered by pure freshwater springs. Their Supply Line Strength and Water Levels both increase by 2.
Inclement Weather
Inclement weather in the desert is an unpredictable, fickle affair. When you roll this random encounter, roll on the table below to determine the nature of the weather.
| 1d10 | Weather |
| 1 | Mirage |
| 2-3 | Thunderstorm |
| 4-6 | Sandstorm |
| 7-10 | Unbearable Heat |
Mirage
Privately roll on the following table. The heroes see the result in the distance and may act accordingly, only to discover that it is just a mirage. If they ask their army to respond to the perceived threat or area of interest, then the Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1.
| 1d10 | Mirage |
| 1 | Brazodiran Scouts encounter |
| 2-3 | Brazodiran Attack encounter |
| 4-6 | Brazodiran Town encounter |
| 7-10 | Verdant Oasis encounter |
Thunderstorm
A midsummer storm rolls in from the sea, drenching you and turning the sand into clogging mud. Your Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1.
Sandstorm
A sandstorm tears through your army. Your soldiers and dinosaurs are both parched and weary. Your Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1. Then, your Water Level is reduced by 1.
Unbearable Heat
The sun bears down on you, parching your throats and roughening your skin. Your Water Level is reduced by 1.
Equipment Failure
Some of the equipment key to the war effort proves faulty. Each hero must make a LUCK check. Take the average and consult the table below to determine the severity of the equipment failure.
| DC | Outcome |
| 14 or lower | A supply wagon’s axle and wheel spokes break. Reduce Supply Line Strength by 1. |
| 15-17 | Tents are eaten through by pests. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Dazed and Enfeebled. |
| 18-21 | An accidental fire burns through soldiers’ blankets. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Chilled and Weakened. |
| 22+ | An infestation of rats leaves the soldiers’ changes of clothes ridden with lice. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Demoralized. |
Food Shortage
Roll 2d20 per player. That is the number of soldiers that no longer have access to rations. The heroes will need to find enough rations to feed these soldiers while the supply lines catch up to them.
The heroes can attempt to resolve this by finding more rations through foraging or hunting. They can also encourage the soldiers to help them forage.
If the heroes convince Mangondulon not to advance for the day, then this challenge is resolved. The soldiers go hungry for one day, but this is not lethal to them. Hungry soldiers are Demoralized and Fatigued. They are no longer Demoralized once they are no longer Fatigued. Once the supply lines catch up, the crisis is averted.
Foraging
Heroes that forage for food can make AWR or LUCK checks, adding skills as relevant. The result is the number of rations that they manage to find.
This activity takes a whole adventuring day. If you want to only spend half the day doing it, you may, but you only find food equal to ½ your roll.
Hunting
Heroes that go on a hunting expedition can make an AWR check, adding Tracking if they have that skill. Take the average roll of all heroes who make this check. The result is the game that they find. Run a combat encounter with this animal or animals; if the heroes kill it, they gain the corresponding number of rations.
| AWR DC | Creature | Rations |
| 11 or less | - | - |
| 12-14 | Pachycephalosaurus | 10 |
| 15-18 | Castoroides | 10 |
| 19-23 | Tyrannosaurus Rex | 20 |
| 24-27 | Ankylosaurus | 35 |
| 28+ | Brachiosaurus | 80 |
This activity takes half of an adventuring day. Heroes that wish to hunt and then engage in Foraging or Oversight may do so, finding only ½ the rations that they would normally find from Foraging or conducting Oversight.
Oversight
Heroes that direct their followers to look for food can make INT or CHA checks, adding skills as relevant. The result is the number of rations that their followers manage to find.
This activity takes a whole adventuring day. If you want to only spend half the day doing it, you may, but you only find food equal to ½ your roll.
Collecting Food
Tabulate the number of rations that your heroes collectively managed to procure. Subtract this number from the number of hungry soldiers; if the difference is 0 or less, then the soldiers suffer no penalty and may march as though they were normally supplied. If the difference is 1 or more, then that many soldiers go without food and are Demoralized, Fatigued, and Enfeebled (or Weakened if they were already Enfeebled). They no longer suffer from any of these conditions once they are no longer Fatigued.
Roving Dinosaurs
Predatory dinosaurs encroach on a weak portion of the Gilgalonian army, such as the scouting forces or a poorly defended caravan of supply wagons.
Roll on the table below to determine the dinosaurs in question.
| 2d6 | 3-4 players
ML 26 |
5-6 players
ML 39 |
| 2 | 4 Allosauruses | 5 Allosauruses |
| 3 | 6 Velociraptors | 8 Velociraptors |
| 4-5 | 1 Titanboa | 2 Titanboas |
| 6-8 | 1 Tyrannosaurus Rex | 2 Tyrannosaurus Rexes |
| 9-10 | 1 Brazodontus | 2 Brazodontuses |
| 11 | 2 Pterodactyls | 3 Pterodactyls |
| 12 | 3 Pteranodon Gargantuses | 4 Pteranodon Gargantuses |
The heroes may be able to spot the dinosaurs and muster enough defenses that the dinosaurs will wander away, uninterested in such a difficult fight. If they do not, then the heroes will need to battle the dinosaurs.
Warding Off the Threat
In order for the heroes to completely mitigate the threat that the hungry dinosaurs pose, they must succeed on two subsequent checks. The first is an AWR/Perceiving check, and the second is a CHA/Leadership or INT/Military check. Heroes may use other skills if they make a compelling case as to why.
For each hero beyond the first that makes either check, decrease the DC by 1. Take the average of all heroes’ checks in both cases.
The heroes’ level of success on their first check determines the base DC of the second check before modifying it to account for the number of heroes making the check.
| AWR DC | CHA DC |
| 15 or lower | 34 |
| 16-18 | 28 |
| 19-23 | 24 |
| 24-27 | 20 |
| 28-30 | 17 |
| 31+ | 14 |
If the heroes fail on their CHA check, then they are unable to rally a large enough resistance to convince the dinosaurs not to attack. If this is the case, they must fight the dinosaurs. Notably, these dinosaurs do not withdraw when Bloodied and seem to fight with a greater degree of desperation; it seems they are malnourished.
Brazodiran Town
The heroes happen upon a Brazodiran town. Mangondulon will push to burn it to the ground and loot its food, water, and supplies. If the heroes agree, then their Supply Line Status and Water Levels both increase by 1.
If the heroes try to convince Mangondulon otherwise, one or more heroes must make an INT, AWR, or CHA check, adding skills as relevant to convince Mangondulon that this is not a good idea. Take the average of the rolls from each hero that contributes to this and reduce the DCs on the table below by 1 for each hero that contributes.
| DC | Outcome |
| 16 or lower | Mangondulon ignores the heroes. He destroys the town. The Supply Line Strength and water level both increase by 1. |
| 17-20 | Mangondulon explains to the heroes that he sees no military advantage to leaving the town intact, but he will respect their preference in this instance. If the heroes destroy the town, the Supply Line Strength and water level both increase by 1. |
| 21-26 | Mangondulon scoffs, but goes along with the heroes’ preference. The heroes lose 1 Fame. They may requisition free room and board overnight but do not increase their Supply Line Strength or water level. |
| 27 or higher | Mangondulon spares the city. They may requisition free room and board overnight but do not increase their Supply Line Strength or water level. |
Brazodiran Scouts
A contingent of Brazodiran scouts perform reconnaissance on the advancing Gilgalonian forces. If the heroes notice the scouts, they may give chase, which potentially results in combat. If the scouts escape, then the next random encounter with Brazodirans will be more difficult.
Each hero must first make a DC 22 AWR/Perceiving check. If any hero succeeds, then they spot the scouts. One of the scouts is flying on a large aerosaur, while others stick to the rolling and dunes along the hills in the distance.
If the heroes do not engage with the scouts, then the scouts observe for another 1d10 x 10 minutes and then leave.
If the heroes do attempt to engage with the scouts, they will not be able to catch up to the scouts on foot. They will need to ride some of Gilgalon’s faster dinosaurs to have a chance to catch up with the scouts.
Running them Down
Heroes may each saddle a Glossosaurus and pursue the Brazodirans.
Have each hero make a DC 17 AWR/Animal Handling check. Any hero that fails falls behind. The heroes that succeed may decide whether to attack the scouts on their own or wait for backup. Any hero that failed the AWR check arrives on the third round of combat.
Upon reaching the scouts, the heroes may engage in combat.
| 2d4 | 3-4 players | 5-6 players |
| 2-3 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 3 Parasaurolophuses, 4 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 5 Parasaurolophuses, 6 Soldiers |
| 4-6 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 3 Gallimimuses, 4 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 4 Velociraptors, 5 Soldiers |
| 7-8 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 3 Glossosauruses, 4 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 5 Glossosauruses, 6 Soldiers |
Surviving Scouts
If any of the scouts escape, then the next time a Brazodiran Scouts encounter is rolled before there is a Brazodiran Attack, treat it as a Brazodiran Attack encounter. The next time there is a Brazodiran Attack encounter, increase the difficulty of the enemy forces by +4 ML.
Brazodiran Attack
A very large armed force of Brazodirans approaches your army. Making no effort to hide, it is clear that they intend to strike you. The Gilgalonians have enough time to mount a reasonable resistance, and a line of scrimmage forms.
The heroes have a chance to weaken their enemies’ resolve using the Line of Scrimmage skill challenge below. Their performance in this skill challenge will determine how difficult the combat encounter is.
Line of Scrimmage
Throughout the Line of Scrimmage skill challenge, specific skills are tied to each check, but your players may make a case for other skills. Do not let a single hero use the same skill more than once in this challenge.
As the Brazodirans approach, the heroes may attempt to corral one of their dinosaurs to the front lines. One or more heroes may make AWR/Animal Handling checks. Take the average of all rolls, then divide the total by 2. The result is the maximum ML of the dinosaur that the heroes may bring to the front lines (maximum 14). The heroes may choose among the following dinosaurs:
| ML | Gilgalonian Dinosaurs |
| 3 | Gallimimus |
| 4 | Glossosaurus, Parasaurolophus |
| 5 | Velociraptor |
| 6 | Apatosaurus |
| 8 | Allosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus |
| 9 | Therizinosaurus |
| 10 | Stegosaurus |
| 14 | Ankylosaurus, Gilgalontus Rex |
Additionally, the heroes should attempt to muster their own forces. Each hero may make a CHA/Leadership check. Decrease the DC by 1 for each hero that participates beyond the first hero. Take the average of each hero’s roll and check the result against the table below to determine the bonus that they will gain on the third check.
| CHA/Leadership DC | Bonus to next check |
| 12 or lower | -2 |
| 13-17 | -1 |
| 18-22 | 0 |
| 23-26 | +1 |
| 27-29 | +2 |
| 30+ | +4 |
Having assembled your forces, you stand ready to face the Brazodiran squadron. The two armies stand 60 ft apart from one another on two low hills, with a slight valley between them. Now, they proceed to yell at one another in an attempt to rattle their opposition.
At least one hero must make a STR/Menacing or CHA/Intimidating check. Decrease the DC by 1 for each hero that participates beyond the first hero. Take the average of each hero’s roll, then add a bonus to the group average based on the previous skill check. Check the table below to determine the outcome of the shouting match.
| DC | Outcome |
| 15 or lower | All heroes are Demoralized and Shaken for the duration of the combat. Add +4 ML worth of enemies. |
| 16-19 | All heroes are Demoralized for the duration of combat. Add +4 ML worth of enemies. |
| 20-23 | Add +2 ML worth of enemies. |
| 24-26 | Remove 2 ML worth of enemies. |
| 27-29 | Remove 2 ML worth of enemies. Remaining enemies are Demoralized for the duration of combat. |
| 30+ | Remove 4 ML worth of enemies. Remaining enemies are Demoralized and Shaken for the duration of combat. |
Hostile Forces
Having resolved the shouting match, one side breaks and begins to flee, allowing the other side to rush forward and begin combat.
Be sure to describe the carnage and mayhem enveloping the heroes as they engage in this fight. You do not need to worry about tracking dozens of Brazodiran and Gilgalonian soldiers; just describe how they battle one another amidst the heroes’ own encounter.
The heroes must face a number of Brazodiran foes dependent upon their previous skill checks. By default, the combat is extremely deadly (ML = ½ party level + 12). Increase or decrease the enemies’ total ML based on the shouting match skill check. Also increase the enemies’ total ML by +4 if the heroes previously encountered Brazodiran Scouts. Then subtract the enemies’ total ML by a number equal to the ML of dinosaurs and soldiers fighting alongside the heroes, after adjusting for the dinosaurs and soldiers being Weakened or Enfeebled.
Use any creatures from the table below to build this encounter.
| ML | Brazodirans |
| 0.5 | Thug |
| 1 | Bandit, Soldier |
| 3 | Bandit Marauder, Gallimimus, Hunter, Veteran Soldier |
| 4 | Cynognathus, Glossosaurus, Parasaurolophus |
| 5 | Velociraptor |
| 6 | Dilophosaurus |
| 8 | Allosaurus, Baryonyx, Pachycephalosaurus |
| 9 | Nevnasaurus |
| 10 | Champion, Stegosaurus |
| 18 | Brazodontus, Tyrannosaurus Rex |
Plague
The army suffers an outbreak of Boilplague. Assume that there are 10,000 members of the army for purposes of tracking the outbreak. Heroes may only quarantine infected soldiers on a given day if they convince Godking Mangondulon not to press his advance on that day.
Hunger From Below
When the heroes reach the appropriate time for the Hunger from Below encounter based on their timeline, proceed to this encounter.
Read Aloud: The first hint that something is wrong comes when you notice the way the sand is… thrumming. It seems to jump and buck, roiling with increasing violence like water brought to a simmer. Then, with a thunderous roar, sand worms burst from the ground. One of them devours an unlucky pack dinosaur in a single gulp.
The heroes must face a number of Sand Worms based on how many heroes are in the party.
| Heroes | Sand Worms |
| 3 | 1 Sand Worm |
| 4 | 1 Sand Worm, 1 Bloodied Sand Worm |
| 5 | 1 Sand Worm, 1 Bloodied Sand Worm |
| 6 | 2 Sand Worms |
The heroes may not utilize other soldiers or dinosaurs during this fight; in the chaos, two other sand worms emerge and the remaining nearby forces are preoccupied dealing with that.
On the sand worm battle map, there are four supply carts, which the sand worms will attempt to destroy. For every two carts that are destroyed, the party’s Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1.
Carts have the following stats.
HP: 50
AR: 14 REF: 10 FORT: 14
Vulnerable Fire 1 DT 20
If you wish for the heroes to have the ability to reposition the wagons, use a similar map without the wagons drawn onto the map. Heroes may goad the harnessed dinosaurs into moving the wagons up to 40 ft by spending 1 AP to make a DC 12 AWR/Animal Handling check. A hero may attempt this once per wagon per turn.
The Battle of the Sandstorm
When the heroes have pressed deep enough into Brazodir, General Dagon advances against them with a full army battalion. As the battle commences, high winds kick up a brutal sandstorm that scours the battlefield.
The heroes plainly see General Dagon approaching them across rocky desert flats. Begin this encounter as a Brazodiran Attack encounter, allowing the heroes to rally dinosaur and soldier ranks. After the two armies have faced off and the heroes have made their appropriate checks to determine their own morale or that of their enemies, proceed to the combat. The enemies that the heroes must face are listed below based on the number of heroes in the party. Note that the heroes may deploy their dinosaurs and soldiers to negate a certain ML’s worth of enemies. Allow the heroes to pick which enemies they negate, aside from General Dagon.
| 3 Heroes | 4 Heroes | 5 Heroes | 6 Heroes |
| General Dagon*, 2 velociraptors, 1 Bandit Marauder, 3 Soldiers | General Dagon*, 1 Pachycephalosaurus, 1 Velociraptor, 2 Bandit Marauders, 4 Soldiers | General Dagon*, 1 Ankylosaurus, 2 Velociraptors, 1 Bandit Marauder, 3 Soldiers | General Dagon*, 1 Brazodontus, 2 Velociraptors, 2 Bandit Marauders, 3 Soldiers |
*See General Dagon, below.
The Sandstorm
At the end of the first round of combat, the heroes notice that the high winds are kicking up enough sand that it is becoming difficult to see. An opaque cloud of sand is blowing towards them at a rapid rate.
At the end of the third round of combat, the sandstorm sweeps across the first 40 ft of the battlefield coming from the west. At the end of each subsequent round, the sandstorm moves an additional 40 ft from west to east.
The following effects apply while creatures are inside the sandstorm:
- All ranged attack rolls that deal physical or elemental damage in the area automatically fail.
- Creatures attempting to fly in this area must first make a DC 16 STR check; if they fail, they cannot fly in a direction of their choice. If they were on the ground, they remain on the ground; if they were in the air, they move 40 ft in the direction that the Sandstorm is blowing.
- All creatures in the area are Deafened beyond 20 ft and are Blinded beyond 5 ft.
- Moving in the area is considered difficult terrain.
At the conclusion of this battle, your soldiers and dinosaurs are both parched and weary. Your Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1. Then, your Water Level is reduced by 1.
General Dagon
General Dagon is a Champion, but now has 200 maximum HP. He rides a chariot drawn by a pair of Cynognathuses. The chariot has two dozen javelins in it. If one Cynognathus dies, the other may only pull the chariot at half speed. If this happens, Dagon hops off of the chariot and uses his axe, rather than his javelins.
In combat, General Dagon boasts loudly and at great length about what a mighty warrior he is. His greataxe is El-Ro, the Shard-Bearer (see Appendix B: Magic Items). General Dagon boasts that each crystal shard on his axe is the soul of a foe he has slain in battle.
Dagon refrains from using his Bronze Skin ability until he is Bloodied. Once bloodied, he uses his Bronze Skin and retreats.
Party AdvancementEach hero levels up from level 13 to level 14. Each hero gains +1 Fame. |
The Cracked Castle

A day’s match north of the site of the Battle of the Sandstorm, the heroes see an ominous, well-fortified ravine. The ravine itself is not more than 60 ft across or 40 ft deep, but maneuvering supply wagons across it would prove difficult if there were no structures spanning it. As it is, there are three wide stone bridges spanning the ravine, but each bridge has a large, crenelated tower overlooking either side. Brazodiran soldiers are clearly patrolling the towers.
When the heroes engage in this battle, they may first make AWR/Animal Handling checks and CHA/Leadership checks to recruit dinosaurs and soldiers to their direct control. The process is the same as it has previously been: Take the average of each participating hero’s roll, then divide that number by 2 to determine the number of dinosaurs (AWR) and soldiers (CHA) that the heroes can recruit. The heroes utilize these creatures in direct combat for this battle, rather than simply utilizing them to reduce enemy ML.
The Brazodirans have a number of soldiers in their first tower, and in their second tower, based on the number of players as shown on the table below. After the first 2 rounds of combat, Brazodirans in the first tower will try to retreat to the second tower.
Creatures on the towers have Partial Cover (+3) against creatures not on the towers. Creatures in the towers have Total Cover against creatures not in the towers. Each tower has two portable ballistae (stats in the MythCrafter’s Guide). The towers have the following stats.
HP: 80
AR: 16 REF: 6 FORT: 16
DT 30
| 3 Heroes | 4 Heroes | 5 Heroes | 6 Heroes | |
| Tower 1 | 1 Bandit Marauder, 3 Soldiers | 1 Bandit Marauder, 4 Soldiers | 1 Bandit Marauder, 4 Soldiers | 1 Ranger, 4 Soldiers |
| Tower 2 | 1 Ankylosaurus, 1 Bandit Marauder, 3 Soldiers | 1 Ankylosaurus, 1 Bandit Marauder, 5 Soldiers | 1 Ankylosaurus, 2 Bandit Marauders, 4 Soldiers | 1 Ankylosaurus, 2 Bandit Marauders, 7 Soldiers |
The Ankylosaurus Gambit
Once the heroes and a majority of their dinosaurs are on the stone bridge, the Brazodiran Ankylosaurus (which was previously hiding) will emerge from the second tower and attack the bridge with its tail.
The bridge has the following stats.
HP: 80
AR: 16 REF: 6 FORT: 16
DT 30
Once it destroys the bridge, the bridge collapses. All creatures on the bridge take 4d4 falling damage and land Prone in the trench.
The Ravine Trap
At this point, the Brazodiran reserves in the second towers begin to dump cauldrons of boiling oil onto the heroes. If the heroes attempt to climb the cliffs on the Brazodiran side of the ravine, the Brazodirans trigger rockslides that may result in broken bones. If the heroes retreat to the far side of the ravine, the Brazodirans attack them with their tower ballistae.
Oil Cauldron
Each of the second towers have four oil cauldrons. A creature may spend its entire turn dumping one of these cauldrons. When it does, the creature makes a +4 attack vs the FORT of each creature in a 20 ft cone from the tower. Hit: 14 (4d6) fire damage and the creature is Burning 3. It may end this condition by falling Prone. Miss: ½ damage and the creature is not Burning.
Rockslides
Along the Brazodiran side of the ravine, there are areas where a creature may pull a lever to dislodge boulders. This takes a creature’s whole turn. Each creature in a 40 ft cone of the lever must make a DC 14 DEX check. On a failure, a creature takes 14 (4d6) blunt damage and falls Prone. On a success, a creature takes ½ damage and does not fall Prone. On a crit fail, a creature breaks a bone. Have the creature make a LUCK check (or roll 1d6 if it is an NPC) and consult the table below to determine the broken limb.
| NPC 1d6 | LUCK DC | Broken Bone |
| 1 | 3 or lower | Back |
| 2 | 4-7 | Leg |
| 3 | 8-15 | Arm |
| 4-6 | 16 or higher | Rib |
Ascending the Embankment
Climbing up either ravine cliff face is treated as Difficult Terrain. When a creature ends its movement on one of the slopes, it must make a DC 10 DEX/Balancing check. On a failure, it falls Prone.
General Dagon
Once the heroes ascend the embankment, General Dagon emerges and attacks them.
General Dagon is a Champion with 200 maximum HP. For this fight, Dagon rides a Pachycephalosaurus instead of a chariot drawn by Cynognathuses. If the Pachycephalosaurus dies, Dagon hops off of the chariot and uses his axe, rather than his javelins.
When he retreats, a Pteranodon Gargantus swoops down to give him a lift.
The Battle of Godking’s Blood

Once the heroes have advanced past the Cracked Castle and have spent the requisite days traveling through the northern stretches of the Brazodiran desert, they arrive at a massive lava field known as Godking’s Blood.
Read Aloud: A vast black field of rolling basalt sprawls before you. Rivulets of golden-red lava ooze through the cracks in the ground. Sickly yellow smoke belches from veins of molten lava. This is the fabled field of the Godking’s Blood, an ominous stain on Brazodir’s landscape. Godking’s Blood is famously only a few short days southeast of Venad, the seat of Assurgazzar’s power. It seems that Brazodir’s armies are entrenched in strongholds across the lava fields, and you spot feral fire elementals claw their way out of the rifts to attack any creature that gets too close.
Gilgalonian Forces
Before the heroes enter Godking’s Blood, they may make AWR/Animal Handling checks and CHA/Leadership checks to determine the ML of Gilgalonian dinosaurs and soldiers that they lead.
In this combat, rather than assuming direct command of the dinosaurs and soldiers, the heroes may spend the ML of any dinosaur or soldier that they are commanding to automatically negate an equivalent ML of Brazodiran forces.
Brazodiran Forces
The heroes will have to fight their way through three waves of Brazodirans. They may Recoup after the first wave and Catch their Breath after the second wave. The enemies that they must fight in each wave are determined by the number of heroes, as shown on the table below.
| 3 Heroes | 4 Heroes | 5 Heroes | 6 Heroes | |
| Wave 1 | 2 Gallimimuses, 2 Bandit Marauders | 2 Velociraptors, 2 Bandit Marauders | 2 Velociraptors, 2 Bandit Marauders | 2 Velociraptors, 2 Bandit Marauders |
| Wave 2 | 1 Allosaurus, 1 Champion | 1 Allosaurus, 1 Champion | 1 Tyrannosaurus Rex, 1 Champion | 1 Tyrannosaurus Rex, 1 Champion |
| Wave 3 | 1 Ranger, 4 Soldiers | 1 Velociraptor, 1 Ranger, 4 Soldiers | 1 Velociraptor, 1 Bandit Marauder, 3 Soldiers | 1 Velociraptor, 1 Ranger, 6 Soldiers |
Environmental Hazards
Across the battlefield, the heroes may face a variety of environmental hazards, including lava flows, fire elementals, and Brazodiran fortifications.
Lava
If a hero falls into lava, it almost certainly spells their doom. When a creature enters lava or starts their turn in lava, they immediately take 20d6 fire damage. A hero that survives this damage gains 2 Death Points and loses one randomly determined limb.
Fire Elementals
Fire Elementals act on initiative count 0. They are hostile to Brazodirans and Gilgalonians alike. Each fire elemental stays within 40 ft of its hot spot (marked by the red crystals on the map). A Fire Elemental only acts when a creature is within 40 ft of its hot spot, and will attack whichever creature seems the weakest within its vicinity.
Fortifications
Creatures on the fortifications have Partial Cover (+3) against creatures not on the fortifications. Creatures in the towers have Total Cover against creatures not in the towers. Each tower has two portable ballistae (stats in the MythCrafter’s Guide). The towers have the following stats.
HP: 80
AR: 16 REF: 6 FORT: 16
DT 30
The End In Sight
Once the heroes defeat the Brazodirans in Godking’s Blood, they are a simple four days’ march from Assurgazzar’s capital city, Venad. However, navigating Godking’s Blood is difficult for the supply wagons. The army’s Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1. Then the heroes receive their last level up of the campaign.
Party AdvancementEach hero levels up from level 14 to level 15. Each hero gains +1 Fame. |
Into the Maw
The heroes must march for four days’ worth of travel time after the Battle of Godking’s Blood to reach Venad.
Roll on the random encounter tables below two times each day during this march, representing the heightened resistance that Brazodir’s forces mount as the heroes advance.

Verdant Oasis
The heroes find a line of scraggly watered by sulfurous streams. The food and water taste sour, but are safe to eat. Their Supply Line Strength and Water Levels both increase by 1.
Inclement Weather
Inclement weather in the desert is an unpredictable, fickle affair. When you roll this random encounter, roll on the table below to determine the nature of the weather.
| 1d10 | Weather |
| 1 | Sandstorm |
| 2-3 | Thunderstorm |
| 4-6 | Unbearable Heat |
| 7-10 | Ashfall |
Thunderstorm
A midsummer storm rolls in from the sea, drenching you and turning the sand into clogging mud. Your Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1.
Sandstorm
A sandstorm tears through your army. Your soldiers and dinosaurs are both parched and weary. Your Supply Line Strength is reduced by 1. Then, your Water Level is reduced by 1.
Unbearable Heat
The sun bears down on you, parching your throats and roughening your skin. Your Water Level is reduced by 1.
Ashfall
Ash and soot from the great sulfur pits west of Venad rain down on you. For the next 24 hours, the dinosaurs and soldiers under your control are considered Weakened if they were at normal strength, and Enfeebled if they were Weakneed.
Equipment Failure
Some of the equipment key to the war effort proves faulty. Each hero must make a LUCK check. Take the average and consult the table below to determine the severity of the equipment failure.
| DC | Outcome |
| 16 or lower | A supply wagon’s axle and wheel spokes break. Reduce Supply Line Strength by 1. |
| 17-19 | An accidental fire burns through soldiers’ blankets. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Dazed and Enfeebled. |
| 20-24 | A heavy ashfall clogs everyone’s lungs. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Chilled and Weakened. |
| 25+ | An infestation of rats leaves the soldiers’ changes of clothes ridden with lice. Any NPCs that assist the heroes in combat for the next 24 hours are Demoralized. |
Food Shortage
Roll 3d20 per player.
| 12-14 | Allosaurus | 10 |
| 15-18 | Pachycephalosaurus | 10 |
| 19-23 | Tyrannosaurus Rex | 20 |
| 24-27 | Brazodontus | 35 |
| 28+ | Ankylosaurus | 35 |
| 20 or lower | Mangondulon ignores the heroes. He destroys the town. The Supply Line Strength and water level both increase by 1. |
| 21-24 | Mangondulon explains to the heroes that he sees no military advantage to leaving the town intact, but he will respect their preference in this instance. If the heroes destroy the town, the Supply Line Strength and water level both increase by 1. |
| 25-29 | Mangondulon scoffs, but goes along with the heroes’ preference. The heroes lose 1 Fame. They may requisition free room and board overnight but do not increase their Supply Line Strength or water level. |
| 30 or higher | Mangondulon spares the city. |
Each hero must first make a DC 26 AWR/Perceiving check.
| 2-3 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 4 Parasaurolophuses, 5 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 5 Parasaurolophuses, 6 Soldiers |
| 4-6 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 4 Gallimimuses, 5 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 4 Gallimimuses, 5 Soldiers |
| 7-8 | 1 Pteranodon Gargantus, 4 Velociraptors, 5 Soldiers | 1 Pterodactyl, 5 Velociraptors, 6 Soldiers |
Surviving Scouts
If any of the scouts escape, then the next time a Brazodiran Scouts encounter is rolled before there is a Brazodiran Attack, treat it as a Brazodiran Attack encounter. The next time there is a Brazodiran Attack encounter, increase the difficulty of the enemy forces by +6 ML.
| 15 or lower | -2 |
| 16-18 | -1 |
| 19-23 | 0 |
| 24-28 | +1 |
| 29-33 | +2 |
| 34+ | +4 |
| 18 or lower | All heroes are Demoralized and Shaken for the duration of the combat. Add +4 ML worth of enemies. |
| 20-24 | All heroes are Demoralized for the duration of combat. Add +4 ML worth of enemies. |
| 25-28 | Add +2 ML worth of enemies. |
| 29-33 | Remove 2 ML worth of enemies. |
| 34-36 | Remove 2 ML worth of enemies. Remaining enemies are Demoralized for the duration of combat. |
| 37 or higher | Remove 4 ML worth of enemies. |
The Glory of Assurgazzar
Once the heroes finish their four-day journey through Brazodir, they arrive outside Venad. General Dagon awaits them at the gates.
Read Aloud: The massive sandstone walls and towers of Venad loom ahead. Broad stone bridges span wide, rocky ravines brimming with sulfuric pools that spew noxious steam into the air, draping the city in a gruesome orange haze.
Tactical Planning
As the heroes prepare their assault on Venad, ask each hero to make an INT or CHA check. This represents a combination of their tactical planning and their capacity to rally their troops. They may add any relevant skills (such as Geography, Leadership, or Military). Take the average of their rolls, and reduce the DC by 1 for every hero beyond the first that participated in this check. The result determines how often the heroes may Recoup or Take a Rest in the coming battles as they progress through the city.
| DC | Outcome |
| 16 or lower | 2 Recoup, 0 Take a Rest |
| 17-23 | 1 Recoup, 1 Take a Rest |
| 24-29 | 2 Recoup, 1 Take a Rest |
| 30 or more | 3 Recoup, 1 Take a Rest |
Rallying the Troops
For the final time, one or more heroes may each rally their dinosaurs and soldiers.
One or more heroes may make AWR/Animal Handling checks. Take the average of all rolls, then divide the total by 2. After this, add 4 to the total. The result is the maximum ML of the dinosaur or dinosaurs that the heroes may add to their forces. The heroes may choose any dinosaurs among the following, adding up the dinosaurs’ ML such that it does not exceed their budget:
| ML | Gilgalonian Dinosaurs |
| 3 | Gallimimus |
| 4 | Glossosaurus, Parasaurolophus |
| 5 | Velociraptor |
| 6 | Apatosaurus |
| 8 | Allosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus |
| 9 | Therizinosaurus |
| 10 | Stegosaurus |
| 14 | Ankylosaurus, Gilgalontus Rex |
The heroes may also make CHA/Leadership or INT/Military checks; again, take the average of each hero’s roll, then divide by 2. After this, add 4 to the total. The result is the maximum ML of the soldier or soldiers that the heroes may add to their forces. The heroes may choose any NPCs among the following, adding up the soldiers’ ML such that it does not exceed their budget:
| ML | Gilgalonian Soldiers |
| 1 | Soldier |
| 2 | Elf Archer |
| 3 | Bandit Marauder, Veteran Soldier |
| 5 | Bandit Captain |
| 7 | Ranger |
| 10 | Champion |
The Storming of Venad
After the heroes finish their tactical planning phase and rallying their troops, the time has come for them to launch the final assault against Brazodir.
This is a six-wave fight. The heroes may choose to Recoup or Take a Rest between any wave of combat, using their budget of Recouping and Taking a Rest from their tactical planning phase.
Each wave of combat progresses to a new region in Venad, as noted on the table below.
| 3 Heroes | 4 Heroes | 5 Heroes | 6 Heroes
ML 38 | |
| Wave 1 | 1 Velociraptor, 3 Soldiers | 1 Allosaurus, 2 Soldiers | 1 Stegosaurus, 1 Allosaurus, 2 soldiers | 1 Ankylosaurus, 1 Allosaurus, 2 Soldiers |

| Wave 5 | 1 Velociraptor, 2 Soldiers | 1 Pachycephalosaurus, 2 Soldiers | 1 Pachycephalosaurus, 2 Soldiers | 1 Pachycephalosaurus, 1 Velociraptor, 5 Soldiers |
| Wave 6 | General Dagon* | General Dagon* | General Dagon* | General Dagon* |
General Dagon
The heroes will face General Dagon twice during this final battle; once in Wave 2 and once in Wave 6.
General Dagon is a Champion with 240 maximum HP. In Wave 2, General Dagon rides a Brazodontus. In Wave 6, he has regained all of his health and abilities. He rides a Tyrannosaurus Rex. In either wave, if his mount dies, Dagon hops off of the chariot and uses his axe, rather than his javelins.
When he retreats, a Pteranodon Gargantus swoops down to give him a lift.
In Wave 6, General Dagon does not retreat.
Epilogue
Read Aloud: You stand triumphant, bloodied and bruised but unbroken, over General Dagon’s still-warm corpse. Behind and before you, the ruins of Venad’s grand stone streets stand as a shattered testimony to Mangondulon’s wrath, and the ferocity of you, his champions.
With a terrific roar, the temple palace of Godking Assurgazzar crumbles outward, boulders and mortar cascading down as his seat of power is reduced to rubble.
The sequel to Kings of Tyranny, a level 16-30 campaign under the working title Gods of Tyranny, will continue the events of the Dinosaur Wars. If you intend to end the campaign here or are unsure if you will play the sequel, use the following read-aloud text. If you intend to play the sequel upon its release, use the Sequel text instead.
Concluding Read Aloud Text: Mangondulon raises his bloody fist in triumph! Glory to Gilgalon, and glory to Mangondulon’s mighty army! The soldiers of Gilglaon raise their voices, the shout of victory mirrored by their dinosaurs’ trumpeting roar of glory.
Sequel Read Aloud Text: Mangondulon raises his bloody fist in triumph… then falters. Out of the rubble of Assurgazzar’s temple, an enormous kaijan like nothing you have ever seen looms into view, filling your vision, blotting out the sun. It resembles a tyrannosaurus, yet it is the size of the city itself. Godking Assurgazzar himself stands on the enormous creature’s head, holding a grand golden scepter that shines with radiant light. He taps the kaijan’s crocodilian head and it opens its jaws. When it roars, your eardrums bleed. When it roars, stone splits. When it roars, the force of its voice sends dinosaur and soldier alike fleeing. Even Mangondulon quakes in his sandals. Today was not a victory. No, far from it; today was the beginning of something much larger. This is not the end. The Dinosaur Wars are not won; they have just begun.
This concludes Kings of Tyranny, the first official MythCraft campaign set in Supereon One.
