Forged from dark, occultic energies, Kaladbolg is suffused with a lingering darkness, its obsidian blade impractical at a glance, yet sharp as avadrium. Bonding to Kaladbolg allows its wielder to enhance their martial capability while casting spells, deal necrotic damage, and even consume souls.

Kalabolg is a greatsword that is considered magical, silvered, and avadrium. While using Kaladbolg you have +1 to attack and damage rolls.

Enhancements

Each time you gain an enhancement for this artifact, choose from the following list of enhancements. Note that some have prerequisites, such as being a certain character level or having another enhancement feature already.

Ascension II Ascension, Character Level 13 Kaladbolg becomes +3 to attack and damage rolls.
Occult Blade Character Level 5 Kaladbolg deals +1d6 necrotic damage.
Occult Blade II Occult Blade, Character Level 10 Occult Blade becomes +1d8 and Kaladbolg’s reach increases to 10 ft.
Occult Blade III Ascension, Occult Blade II, Character Level 13 Occult Blade becomes +1d10.

When attacking with Kaladbolg, you may choose to take any necrotic damage you roll on the attack if you hit your target. This damage cannot be reduced in any way, and you reduce the APC of the attack by 1 (min 2).

Shieldbreaker When you crit against a creature wearing armor or wielding a shield, reduce the armor or shield’s AR by 1 permanently. Once its AR reaches 10 if armor or +0 if a shield, it breaks and loses all benefits.
Soulbreaker Shieldbreaker, Capture Soul You may expend a captured soul to use Shieldbreaker against a target that you hit, even if you did not crit against them.

Spellblade

Enhancements from this grouping meld your martial prowess while using Kaladbolg with magical ability.

Enchantment PreReq Description
Mirror Soul Kaladbolg adapts to your magical ability. It gains a single tag of any source that you possess a magic entry talent for. While holding Kaladbolg, you may use it to satisfy any gesture components of a spell of that source. Additionally, when a creature dies within 10 ft of you, you may spend up to your magic attribute in Reactive AP to consume a portion of that creature’s Essence, restoring SP equal to the expended AP. (1/Recoup)
Source Blade Mirror Soul, Character Level 9 Kaladbolg now uses your magic attribute for attacks and damage instead of using STR.
Source Blade II Source Blade, Character Level 13 While wielding Kaladbolg your crit range with spells increases by +1 (if you crit on a 20, you now crit on a 19- 20). On a crit with a spell, regain 3 SP.
Spell Strike Mirror Soul, Character Level 11 When you cast a spell while wielding Kaladbolg, you reduce the APC of your next attack with it by 1 (min 1). (1⁄2 magic attribute/Rest)
Spell Strike II Source Blade II, Character Level 15 When you cast a spell while wielding Kaladbolg and crit, you may make an attack with Kaladbolg immediately after with an APC of 0. You regain +1 use of Spell Strike per Recoup.
Battlemage Mirror Soul, Character Level 5 When you make an attack with Kaladbolg, you reduce the APC of your next spell cast by 1 (min 1). (1⁄2 magic attribute/Rest)
Battlemage II Battlemage, Character Level 11 When you crit with an attack from Kaladbolg, you reduce the APC of your next spell cast by 2 (min 1), and reduce its SPC by 5. (1⁄2 magic attribute/Rest)

You regain +1 use of Battlemage per Recoup.

Soulblade

Enhancements from this grouping tap into the Occult nature of Kaladbolg, feasting on the Essence of slain creatures.

Enchantment PreReq Description
Capture Soul Mirror Soul When you slay a creature with Kaladbolg, or a creature dies within 10 ft of you, you may spend 1 AP or 1 Reactive AP to gather that creature’s soul. Kaladbolg may store a number of souls up to your magic attribute. You may spend 2 AP on your turn to consume a soul, gaining one of the following benefits (SAN/Rest):
  • Regain 1d4 + your magic attribute HP.
  • Increase the damage dealt from Kalabolg by +2 for 1 minute per soul spent. You can use multiple souls when activating this ability.
Capture Soul II Capture Soul, Ascension The range you may capture a soul at increases to 30 ft. You may use souls for new abilities, and your previous abilities improve:
  • Regain 1d8 + your magic attribute HP.
  • Increase the damage dealt from Kaladbolg by +2 for 10 minutes per soul spent.
  • Spend 2 Reactive AP and 1 Soul to reduce a single instance of damage dealt to you by 1d6 + your magic attribute.
  • Attacks made with Kaladbolg target WILL for 1 minute.
