Chehozran

Once an enormous forest nation that spread from the Inner Sea to the oceans west of Gathandia, Chehozran is now half the size it once was. Generations ago, pragmatic leaders split the northeastern half of the nation off into the new kingdom of Chee in an effort to consolidate resources in two locations. Chee has since been conquered by Roshallan. Chehozran remains independent of Roshallan, but

Chehozran continually adds additional fortifications and trained soldiers to its border as it anticipates invasion from the aggressive nation at any point.

Academic.

Chehozran has little to offer in the way of formal schooling. The elderly in towns throughout the nation will often teach the young, and those who desire often travel to Pash to receive additional formal education.

Aristocratic and Political.

Chehozran does not have an aristocracy besides the royal family. Following the tradition of primogeniture, each eldest child becomes the next monarch. Besides the monarchy, other officials and representatives are democratically elected. This preserves the continuity of leadership at the highest levels of government while allowing the people’s voices to be heard through local elections.

Mercantile and Trade.

Chehozran produces sizable quantities of lumber, game, vegetables, minerals, clay, pigments, and fine art made using such materials. They primarily trade within the borders of their own nation but have open trade agreements with Pash.

Militant.

The military in Chehozran is large, skilled, and disciplined. They do not have the strongest iron or the most modern weaponry, but they know their terrain exceptionally well. Thus far, they have held off all preliminary Roshallani scouting parties.

Religious.

Looking to the ancient past, the Chehozranese worship the kaijans of old. They believe that one day, the kaijans will return and will scour the world again. While this will cause much devastation, Chehozranese prophets claim that some among the kaijan will be protectors that shelter the faithful from the wrath of the other kaijans.

Social.

The folk of Chehozran trust their own and will provide for one another. Shelter and food are considered communal, and few are ever left wanting. This hospitable practice is generally afforded to Pashans as well. This courtesy does not, however, extend to other foreigners, who are treated with suspicion if not outright hostility.

Underworld.

Given that Chehozran is focused on the threat of Roshallan, there are a handful of opportunistic gangs. A crime syndicate also extends throughout Chehozran, exploiting the air of fear.

Yirisk

Chehozran’s capital city, Yirisk, is near the head of the Chehozran River in a wide valley between the two southern prongs of the mountain range that embraces Chehozran’s northern regions. Yirisk’s riverside docks frequently house Pashan merchant vessels. In preparation for the worst case scenario, Chehozranese officials have been preparing a contingency in the event of Roshallani invasion. A fortified network of caverns in the mountains could hold most of Chehozran’s population for several years in the event of a protracted siege.

Quest Ideas

• The Roshallani have finally invaded Chehozran. The heroes must help civilians evacuate and reach the fortifications at Yirisk, doing whatever they can to forestall Roshallani advances.
• The excavators designing fortified caverns have come across a nest of ancient monsters. The heroes must defeat these monsters to make room for additional wartime bunkers.
• Parsors with a twisted sense of humor have dammed the Chehozran River, blocking their economic ties to Pash. The heroes need to convince the Parsors to remove the dam.
