The Mosasaurus resembles a crocodile-headed whale with four fins that correspond to the anatomical locations of legs in a quadrupedal animal. Mosasauruses are oceanic predators that compete with Liopleurodons and Megalodons for food and territory. A Mosasaurus is usually smaller than a [[Megalodon]] and will not often try to challenge it directly. Because Mosasauruses are usually 40 to 60 ft long and have four flippers that allow for more maneuverability, they can lurk in shallow coastal waters, pose as sandbars, and occasionally ambush creatures on beaches, much as a crocodile might.
